Cheval West Community Development District (CDD) is excited to announce a significant upgrade to our community's street lighting system. To reduce expenses, we are replacing the old concrete poles with new decorative lights.
Why This Change?
The decision to replace the streetlights stems from a pressing need to manage rising costs. Street lighting is the District's third-largest expense, projected to reach nearly $250,000 this year for the 336 installed streetlights. Recognizing the financial strain, a Board member initiated an investigation into alternative solutions over a year ago. This comprehensive effort included evaluating off-grid solutions and various third-party vendors.
After careful consideration and thorough evaluation, renewing the lease contract with TECO emerged as the best option. This renewal ensures continued service and introduces a cost-effective solution: new decorative lights.
Financial Impact
The new lighting system will significantly reduce the District's annual expenses, bringing costs down to approximately $140,000 annually. This substantial saving will benefit the District and its assessment payors over the next 20 years.
Installation Plan
The District signed the new lease agreement in March, and the poles have been ordered. TECO will begin installing the lights in late July/early August, starting with the residential/village streets and moving inward towards the collector roads, such as TPC Blvd. This project replaces lights on a one-for-one basis. Upon completing the one-for-one replacement, an assessment will occur to identify if more poles are needed.
Enhancing Our Community
Beyond the financial benefits, the new decorative lights will enhance our community's overall look and feel. These lights are more cost-effective and contribute to a more welcoming and attractive environment for residents and visitors alike.
We look forward to seeing this project's positive impact on our community. Thank you for your continued support and patience as we undertake this important upgrade.
